Twister
Pictures: playing twister with the kids from The Phuket Has Been Good To Us Foundation at the government school in Kalim.
If you are looking for a family game that you can do indoors or outdoors, Twister will be a guaranteed hit on any party or play date. There is no need to buy the game, for around 100 THB and a little time, you (or the kids) can make your own.
Age
From 5 years and up
What you need
4 sticker sheets in 4 different colours (53cm x 70cm)
Scissors
Container or jar
Plate
Preparation
Draw 6 circles on each sticker sheet using a plate as a mall. If you are making the game for small children you can use a small plate so the play field won’t be too big. Cut out the circles. Tape them to the floor, creating a play field of 4 columns, each with 6 circles of one colour.
The original game works with a spinning wheel, but it is easier to create cards that will determine which move you need to make. If you have a bit of sticker sheet left over, cut out 4 cards. Write on the back of the card; right foot, right hand, left foot, left hand. Repeat this for each colour.
Play
Players face each other from opposite ends of the play field. Place one foot on each of the two middle circles at your end of the field. Your opponent does the same on his or her end.
The referee takes a card out of the box and then calls out the body part and the colour. For example, the referee may call out: "Right hand, red." All players, at the same time, must then try to follow the referee's directions.
Any player who falls, or touches the mat with an elbow or knee, is immediately out of the game. (If you feel that a new position is impossible, or will cause you to fall, you may eliminate yourself.) The last player left in the game is the winner.
Insiders tip: ladies, make sure you wear pants
Add-ons for more fun play
There is no cleaning up required if you want to keep the play field. Otherwise, just take the stickers off the floor.
Educational
This game is perfect for kids to learn about left and right and great for keeping their balance too.

Add-ons for more fun play
- If you want to take the game outside, use spray paint to create a field on a lawn or sidewalk or use chalk on tiles.
- Tape the circles onto a large plastic or cardboard sheet so you can use it multiple times
- How cool would it be to do twister on a bouncing castle? Just tape the circle stickers onto the bouncing castle.
- To play twister with a lot of people you can double the field and/or add more circles to a column.
There is no cleaning up required if you want to keep the play field. Otherwise, just take the stickers off the floor.
