Pom Pom shooter
Made from only a plastic cup and a balloon, the Pom Pom Shooter is a great rainy day activity. It is easy to make and hardly costs a thing.
The Pom Pom Shooter is fun for children of all ages and the older kids can even try to make it themselves. Even some parents will enjoy it too..!
Age
From 2 years and up
What you need (for one Shooter)
1 plastic cup
1 balloon
Scissors
Pom Poms
Preparation
Cut off the bottom of the plastic cup, about 1/3rd. Then tie a knot in the balloon and cut off the top. Now try to stretch the balloon over the cup. If the balloon comes off you could try to tape it to the cup.
Play
Put a Pom Pom into the cup and pull back the balloon. Now aim, and FIRE!
Using Pom Pom’s makes it a great to play indoors as the Pom Poms are very soft and won’t damage anything in the house or hurt the kids.
Add-ons for more fun play
Not much to clean, which is great! It is best to use ‘non hairy’ Pom Poms, as the hairy ones (like in the picture) lose their hair which can leave a trail throughout the house. You can put the Pom Poms and shooter in a little basket and store it for another rainy day or for when the kids say; “Mom, I am bored”!
Educational
If you want to make the activity a bit more educational, you can teach your child about distances and directions when playing. This activity is also good for the smaller kids to develop their fine/gross motor skills by placing the Pom Pom in the shooter and pulling back the balloon.

- Use mini marshmallows instead of Pom Poms. Wouldn’t it be fun to try shooting them into each other’s mouth!? You can even shoot further using a marshmallow and it is YUMMY too!
- Have a competition by drawing/taping a target on the floor and see who can shoot their Pom Pom closest to the target. Or try to see who can shoot the furthest. Or who can shoot most into a bowl that is a few feet away.
