Valentine craft party
Turn a playdate into a Valentine craft party and decorate some paper hearts with your little friends and send them off to your loved ones. Who wouldn't like to receive such a cute heart for Valentine!
Activity
Decorating paper hearts is a fun activity for toddlers and pre-schoolers. It is an open ended activity which allows them to decorate the hearts any way they want and it helps to improve the fine motor skills.
What you need: Pink paper, glitter, paint, (heart shaped) stickers, stamps, crayons, google eyes, paint, paint brush, paint palette, toilet paper rolls, heart shaped cookie cutter, scissors and glue.
Preparation: Set up all the decoration on a table so everybody can easily access it. Putting everything in separate plastic cups can help to keep it organised and tidy. Trace a heart shaped cookie cutter onto pink paper and cut it out. Repeat this for the amount of hearts you need. By bending a toilet paper roll in the middle you can turn it into a heart shape. Put a little tape around the roll so the heart holds it shape. The heart can be used as a stamp. Simply dip it in paint and stamp it on paper.
Play: Once everything is set up and the guests have arrived, the kids can start to decorate the hearts any way they like.
Drinks and snacks
A party isn't a party without some yummy snacks. Try to have a mix of sweet and savoury snacks for the kids. Here are a few ideas;
Cupid tomato hearts: Diagonally cut off 1/4 to 1/3 of 2 cherry tomatoes at 45 degrees. Attach the 2 biggest parts together into a heart shape and stick a (decorative) toothpick through it.
Valentine heart cookies: Make Valentine cookies using heart shaped cookie cutters and decorated them with white and red icing sugar. Your kids would love to help making these cookies. Click here for ingredients and instructions.
Watermelon hearts: Cut the watermelon into slices of 1-2 cm thick. With a heart shaped cookie cutter or play dough shape press out hearts.
